Frequently Asked Questions

How do readings work?
I do readings over Zoom--either with video or without, depending on your preference. When you book a reading with me, you upload a photo of your animal(s) and I don't look at that photo until right before our reading begins. Please note: before our reading, I do NOT want to know anything about your pet beyond what I ask in the questionnaire you complete when booking with me.
A few minutes before our reading I do a brief grounding and meditation exercise. Then I open the photo, ask your animal if they're willing to talk to me, and ask them what I call "confirmation questions." When our Zoom session begins, I share the answers to my confirmation questions with you to make sure I am connecting with your animal's energy. Once we're sure I am connected, I'll ask them if there's anything they want to share before we begin asking your questions. Often there ends up being a back-and-forth discussion with the animal and guardian. Once all your questions have been answered and your animal has communicated everything they want you to know, we'll end the zoom session and I will email you a recording of the reading. After the zoom session, I thank your animal, send them my love and disconnect our energies. *I do not connect to your animal again unless you ask me to do so.

Does my animal need to be in the room for our reading?
No, you and your animal do not need to be in the same room for your reading. In fact, you could be away from home when we do the reading. Some animals decide they want to be close to their guardians during readings. Some nap or just relax in their favorite spot. And others get so excited that they leap up to wrestle with their furry siblings (you guessed it, this one refers to dogs). I've even had several animals insist on climbing up on their guardian's laps--front, center, and camera ready!

Are there any times I should avoid when scheduling a reading?
Yes! Please do not schedule readings during times when your animal usually goes on a walk, eats dinner, or during any potentially exciting event. The reason: they won't want to spend much time talking and they may even be a little grumpy that we're keeping them from a fun activity.

How should I prepare for my reading?
-
Make a list of questions or things you would like to discuss with your animal.
-
On the day of the reading, tell your animal that I am going to help you talk to them and that I have your permission to connect with them.
-
Be open to hearing your animal's thoughts and feelings. Sometimes animals may not answer questions in the way you expect.
-
Give your animal the space to communicate with me. Occasionally, while your animal conveys information to me, there will be pauses in my conversation with you--this is especially true for more reserved or shy animals. Some guardians feel uncomfortable with this silence and are tempted to fill it by talking. I'll give you cues when I'm listening to what your animal is saying, but just know that you'll learn more from them if you allow for these quiet pauses.
-
Be ready to ask for a moment if you need one! Once in a while, guardians learn something unexpected from their animal that makes them feel emotional. I will always honor the need to pause during a reading. I would prefer that we give you space to catch your breath so you and your beloved animal can get what you need from our session.

What if you can't connect with my animal?
It's rare, but every once in a while an animal either doesn't want to talk or doesn't want to talk in front of their guardian. If this occurs, my recommendation is that I try to connect with them offline to ask the questions you've prepared. If you agree, we'll end our zoom session and I'll see if your animal is willing to continue the reading.
-
If they are willing, I'll email their answers to you. In this case, since you didn't have the chance to ask follow-up questions in the reading, I'll ask if you have any follow-ups and then email those answers to you as well.
-
If your animal is NOT willing to continue, I will refund the money you paid for our session.

I don't want to go to my vet. Can you just ask my animal what hurts?
This is a hard NO. I will happily help you and your veterinarian hone in on problems, but if your animal is suddenly coughing, lethargic, vomiting, etc and you ask me to do a reading, I will decline and send you directly to your vet.
Animal communication is not a substitute for veterinary care and I am not a veterinarian.

I had this cat, but when my ex and I split, I gave it to them. Can you do a reading with the cat for me?
I only do readings with guardians or with the permission of guardians. The animal we do the reading with needs to either be in your direct care or owned by you at the time of the reading.

What if I forget about or can't make it to our zoom appointment?
I require 24 hours notice for cancellations. Cancellations within 24 hours will be refunded the amount paid minus the fees Stripe charges me. I do not refund no-show appointments.
Life happens. If you have an emergency, please email me and we will work together to reschedule our appointment.

Why do you use Zoom?
I use Zoom for three reasons:
-
It allows me to give you a recording of our session.
-
You get to decide whether or not we use video for your reading. Some people want to see their animal communicator during the reading while others aren't comfortable with videoconferencing. The beauty of Zoom is that you don't have to use video AND you can call into our reading if you don't want to use your computer.
-
Since I use photos to do animal readings, Zoom allows us to do your animal's reading regardless of geographic boundaries.
